Interview with Marivi

Last year I’ve heard for the first time the Mexican band The Legion of Hetheria at Metal Female Voices Fest 3 in Belgium.
From that moment I loved their music and I saw the band also playing in The Hague as support act for After Forever.

Time to ask Marivi (singer of the band) a few questions because they are in Europe right now for a few gigs.

How was your flight?
Well’ A bit long and boring but luckily they put some good movies and at last I talked with the boys so it was not boring.

How many shows will you do here in Europe?
For now we have five gigs here. One in Tilburg, two in Belgium and one in France.

What do you expect from the shows?
We expect that the people like and love our music and can identify with it.

What will the band doing right now at the moment?
Unfortunately our bass player couldn’t come with us. And they have to prepare some new once here and they are practicing and rehearsing.

Who is the support act in Tilburg?
I don’t know exactly but we play with Delain.

You’ve told me about the DVD recording. You did it in Mexico. For our readers in which venue did you record the DVD?
It was in El Circo Volador and luckily we got almost 2000 people there! It was really cool!

When can we expect the DVD?
The end of January or beginning February.

With extra video’s or bonus tracks or something?
It’s just the live concert. Because we played some covers but we can’t put them in the DVD so just our songs.

 Was the atmosphere good and was technically also everything oke?
The people were very enthusiastic and supported us all the time. The sound and the lights were really good. It was not so far the best gig in Mexico.

Is the music industry very different in Mexico than in Europe?  The Metal or Rock or Gothic industry?
Well it’s really difficult for metal bands to have a record label in Mexico, because they think that kind of music is not commercial. So they don’t take that risk! And here at least all the metal bands and rock bands have the opportunity to have a record label.

How old were you when you took your first singing classes?
I started to take singing lessons at the age of six and then I the age of nine I’ve started with classical singing lessons.

How do you keep your voice in shape?
No smoking, doing the exercise my teacher gives me to keep my voice healthy.

You are in Rotterdam right now. What did you see from my beautiful city? 
First I went to the see which was  really beautiful and then to Madurodam and then to a Monkeys Park where the monkeys are running free. And some shops in Rotterdam in the centre of Rotterdam and Zuidplein (shopping mall) of course! :)

The Netherlands is very different than Mexico. What was the biggest difference you saw?
The beaches in Mexico are really hot and sunny and the sea here in The Netherlands is very cold! But I liked it!

Do you have a final word to say to our readers and do you have also advice for girls who have also the ambition to sing?
